Andrea Sparr is a Dermatology Physician Associate, educator, author, speaker, and advocate dedicated to advancing skin health equity through education, awareness, and community engagement.

With over 16 years of experience in healthcare and a passion for serving diverse communities, Andrea has witnessed firsthand the disparities that exist in skin cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection. These experiences inspired her to create Equity Under the Sun™, a nonprofit initiative focused on ensuring that every individual—regardless of skin tone, background, or access to care—has the knowledge and resources needed to protect their skin health.

Andrea earned her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Yale School of Medicine and her Doctor of Medical Science degree from Northern Arizona University. She currently practices dermatology in North Carolina, where she provides medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology care while remaining committed to patient education and advocacy.

In addition to her clinical work, Andrea is the author of Biopsies, Botox, & Bias: The Truth About Skin Across Every Shade, co-host of the Rejuvaness podcast, a frequent speaker on dermatology and health equity topics, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Mecklenburg Medical Society.

Through Equity Under the Sun™ (trademark pending), Andrea partners with community organizations, healthcare professionals, educators, and industry leaders to promote sun protection, improve skin cancer awareness, and expand access to culturally inclusive skin health education.

Why We Exist

Skin health equity begins with awareness

Too many people have been led to believe that skin cancer only affects individuals with fair skin. This misconception has created a dangerous gap in awareness, prevention, and early detection—particularly within communities of color.

While people with darker skin tones may have a lower overall risk of developing skin cancer, they are often diagnosed at later stages, when treatment can be more difficult and outcomes may be worse. Lack of representation in educational materials, limited awareness, and longstanding healthcare disparities contribute to these preventable differences.

At Equity Under the Sun™ (trademark pending), we believe that everyone deserves access to accurate, inclusive, and culturally relevant skin health education. Sun protection, skin cancer awareness, and early detection are not just for some communities—they are for every community.

We exist to challenge myths, close knowledge gaps, promote prevention, and empower individuals to advocate for their skin health. Through education, outreach, partnerships, and advocacy, we are working toward a future where no one is overlooked, underserved, or left out of the conversation.

Because skin health equity begins with awareness.

Every Shade. Every Story. Every Community.

Our Mission

Equity Under the Sun™ is dedicated to reducing disparities in skin cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection through education, advocacy, and community outreach. We empower individuals of all skin tones with the knowledge, resources, and support needed to make informed decisions about their skin health—fostering a future where equitable access to skin health education and prevention is available to every community.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every person, regardless of skin tone, background, or access to care, has the knowledge and resources needed to protect their skin health and reduce the burden of preventable skin disease.
